A seven-ton locomotive gas engine was embedded in the foundation of the Golden Gate Bridge, after it slid on wet rails while hauling concrete. The locomotive plunged 100 feet into the abutment’s soft cement and could not be recovered, so it has been sealed there throughout the bridge’s history.
