Baltimore Orioles slugger Trey Mancini is recovering after having surgery to remove a tumor that was discovered last week during a colonoscopy exam. The American, who turns 28 on Wednesday, will be re-examined next week by doctors to see if they were able to remove all the cancer from his colon. "The outpouring of love and support I have received has made an extremely tough week so much better," said Mancini, adding he plans to play baseball again. "I have the best family, friends, fans, and teammates imaginable. "I am also extremely thankful for the Orioles front office, our athletic trainers and the entire medical staff for everything they have done to help me during this time." The Orioles said they are monitoring Mancini's post surgery recovery closely. "Lab results and the timetable for Trey's recovery will not be known until next week," and Orioles spokesperson said. "In the interim, Trey and his family continue to appreciate the respect for privacy." Mancini, a first baseman, was the top offensive star for the Orioles, delivering 35 home runs and 97 RBIs. He played 154 games and batted .291. The Orioles selected Mancini in the eighth round of the 2013 draft. After being call-up four years ago, Mancini became a regular with Baltimore in 2017. He has a career batting average of .276 in 462 games with 86 home runs and 238 RBIs. gph/bb
