A court in Ivory Coast on Wednesday sentenced Guillaume Soro, the former rebel chief and onetime prime minister, to a life sentence for having plotted to overthrow the government. Soro was tried and sentenced in absentia. Two other defendants, his close associates Souleymane Kamagate and Affoussy Bamba, received 20-year sentences. ck-stb/jj/ach
