Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Tepera was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally throwing at Milwaukee's Brandon Woodruff, Major League Baseball said Thursday. Cubs manager David Ross was also suspended one game and fined for the incident, which came in the bottom of the fifth inning of Tuesday's game in Milwaukee. Ross will serve his suspension on Friday when the Cubs host the Atlanta Braves. But Tempera has opted to appeal, and his suspension won't begin until that process is complete. Tepera's pitch behind Brewers pitcher Woodruff came an inning after Woodruff threw high and inside to Cubs catcher Willson Contreras, hitting Contreras on the hands. "That caught me off-guard," Contreras said of Tepera's throw, in comments widely interpreted to confirm Tepera meant to pitch at Woodruff. "I didn't know anything about it. I was just trying to calm (Woodruff) down because I know how it feels to be thrown at." bb/gph
