Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, a three-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, underwent wrist surgery and will recover in three to four weeks, the NHL club announced Tuesday. The club did not specify which wrist Crosby has arthroscopic surgery upon on Monday, but said it should be healed by early October. The 33-year-old center became the third Penguins player to undergo an operation since the team was upset by Montreal in last month's qualifying round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin had left elbow surgery and forward Zach Aston-Reese had left shoulder surgery on August 17. Crosby had two goals in four games in the Penguins series loss to Montreal after netting 16 goals with 31 assists in the regular season, missing 28 games after core-muscle surgery last November. Crosby has 462 goals and 801 assists in 984 career NHL games, leading the Penguins to the Stanley Cup in 2009, 2016 and 2017. He is a two-time NHL playoff Most Valuable Player, a two-time NHL MVP and two-time NHL scoring champion. In 2010, Crosby scored the "golden goal" in over-time against the United States at Vancouver to deliver Canada an Olympic gold medal. He also captained Canada's 2014 gold-medal squad at Sochi. js/rcw
