Major League Baseball postponed Saturday's game between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants after a member of the Giants organization tested positive for COVID-19. The test led to Friday's game between the clubs in San Diego being postponed only minutes before the scheduled start, with Saturday's also called off "out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing and contact tracing to be conducted," MLB said in a statement. The postponements are the first to involve National League West division clubs this season, coming with just over two weeks remaining in the scheduled 60-game regular season. The Giants had not had a positive COVID-19 test since the team assembled for pre-season workouts on July 6. The games could be made up Thursday, when both teams have a scheduled off day, or as part of the final season series when they meet September 25-27 in San Francisco. The Padres are 29-17, 3.5 games back of the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers , while the Giants are 23-22 and clinging to the final NL wildcard playoff spot. js/rcw
