Roma's Champions League ambitions took a knock on Sunday with a 3-1 Serie A defeat at relegation-threatened Torino. Paulo Fonseca's side had advanced to the Europa League semi-finals during the week to set up a final-four meeting with Manchester United. But their struggles in the domestic league continued despite taking the lead after just four minutes thanks to a Borja Mayoral goal. Torino hit back with Antonio Sanabria nodding in on 57 minutes with Simone Zaza scoring the second just after coming off the bench with 20 minutes to go. The capital side ended the match a man down after Amadou Diawara was sent off on 85 minutes after a foul on Zaza landed him a second yellow card. Captain Andrea Belotti sent Tomas Rincon through for the injury time third goal, as Torino earned back-to-back wins for just the second time this season to move up to 15th position and five points clear of the drop zone. "It's a very important victory against a strong team," said Zaza. "After so many negative months there is enthusiasm and unity. We have to continue like this." Roma have taken four points from the last five games, and are stuck in seventh position, eight points off the Champions League berths. Their hopes of a return to the elite European competition could now lie in winning the Europa League. ea/dj
