The "evil spirits" of hatred and anti-Semitism are re-emerging, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier warned Wednesday in a Berlin speech marking 75 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. "The evil spirits of the past are reappearing today under a new guise. More still, they are presenting their ethno-nationalist, authoritarian thinking as a vision, as a better answer to the questions of our time," he said. Steinmeier was speaking at a special parliamentary session, attended by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and MPs including from Germany's far-right AfD party. mfp/tgb/wdb
