Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific on Wednesday said it will slash up to 5,900 jobs and shutter its Cathay Dragon subsidiary, joining a growing list of airlines making swingeing cuts as they reel from the coronavirus pandemic. "This means some 5,300 Hong Kong-based employees being made redundant, and approximately 600 employees based outside of Hong Kong also possibly being affected subject to local regulatory requirements," the airline said in a statement. su-jta/jah
