Suzuki's Joan Mir won the MotoGP world championship on Sunday when despite finishing down the field in the Valencia Grand Prix he gained enough points to assure his first title. The 23-year-old from Mallorca only sealed his maiden MotoGP success last week but has been the most consistent performer. jld/dmc/nr
