The Austrian ski resort of Saalbach will host the world alpine ski championships in 2025, the international ski federation (FIS) anounced Saturday. It will be the ninth time ski-loving Austria will have hosted the world champs, the last time being in Schladming in 2013. In a vote on potential candidates, the FIS Council had 12 for Saalbach and one each for Crans-Montana in Switzerland and Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. The next world championships are scheduled for the Italian resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo between February 7-21, 2021, before the French resorts of Meribel and Courchevel host the 2023 edition. The FIS Council also allocated the 2025 world nordic ski championships to Trondheim, Norway -- the sole candidate. rg/lp/dmc
