Britain's Simon Yates crossed the line alone to win the second stage of the Tour of the Alps in Austria on Tuesday to take the overall race lead. Yates, riding for Team BikeExchange, finished 41 seconds ahead of defending champion Pavel Sivakov of INEOS Grenadiers. Ireland's Dan Martin of the Israel Start-Up Nation team finished third nearly a minute off the pace following the 121km run from Innsbruck with an uphill finish at Feichten im Kaunertal. "I enoy these stages. We race from the start, rather than messing round for 150k," Yates said at the line. "So far so good, still a lot of very hard stages to come," he added. Wednesday's 162km third stage crosses from Imst in Austria to Naturno in Italy. ea/dmc
