Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper says plentiful coronavirus tests will allow safe NFL games this season, some with a limited number of spectators in the stands. The billionaire hedge fund manager spoke Wednesday on CNBC and discussed how the NFL might look in September when it plans to open a full-season schedule. Tepper said he expects enough tests for players to be "safe on the field" even though COVID-19 pandemic expert Dr. Anthony Fauci says the NFL offers "the perfect set up for spreading" the deadly virus. Tepper said face masks and social distancing might be needed, but speculated a reduced number of spectators might be allowed in stadiums. "You won't be having full stadiums, but that doesn't mean you can't have some fans in the stadium either," Tepper said. Local governments in the areas where the NFL's 32 clubs play would also have to ease stay-at-home rules to allow for such gatherings. "There should be some amount of fans in the stadiums, depending on what locale and where you are and what the local rules are," Tepper said. "There could possibly be." js/rcw
