Yu Darvish will have to wait until Friday for the chance to save the Major League Baseball season for the Chicago Cubs after their playoff game against Miami was postponed. The 34-year-old Japanese right-hander was scheduled to start for the Cubs against the Marlins at Wrigley Field on Thursday before the game was postponed due to forecasts of bad weather all day in Chicago. Miami won the best-of-three wildcard series opener 5-1 on Wednesday and would advance to the final eight in the MLB post-season with another triumph. The Cubs would need a victory with Darvish as the starting pitcher on Friday to force a third game on Saturday. Whichever club advances will face the winner between Atlanta and Cincinnati in the National League division series. Darvish has been stellar for the Cubs in a season shortened to 60 games per club by the coronavirus pandemic. He went 8-3, leading the National League in wins, with a 2.01 earned-run average that was second in the NL. Darvish struck out 93 batters in 76 innings pitched. The Cubs went 34-26 this season to win the NL Central division while Miami was 31-29 to finish second in the NL East. js/rcw
