Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi on Monday extended a 28-day coronavirus lockdown by another week ahead of a gradual easing of restrictions. The southern African country has so far recorded only 22 cases of COVID-19, including one death. Strict social distancing measures were implemented on April 2 and were to have expired on Thursday. After a one-week extension to May 7, measures will be "sequentially eased" over a further two weeks, the president said in a televised address. All lockdown regulations are expected to be lifted by May 30. Botswana has tested 6,210 of its 2.2 million inhabitants. According to Masisi, 21 of the 22 confirmed coronavirus cases were asymptomatic. str-sch/gd
