Mircea Lucescu, the long-serving former coach of Shakhtar Donetsk, guided their rivals Dynamo Kiev to a domestic double on Thursday as the capital club beat Zorya Luhansk 1-0 in extra time in the Ukrainian Cup final. Dynamo defeated Zorya in Ternopil to win the trophy for the 13th time, equalling Shakhtar's record. After a goalless 90 minutes, midfielder Viktor Tsygankov netted the winner in the 98th minute. Dynamo claimed the Ukrainian league title last month in Lucescu's first season as coach of the bitter rivals of Shakhtar, the side he managed for 12 years. The Romanian veteran has masterminded Dynamo's 16th title, but first for five years. Dynamo's decision last summer to hire the 75-year-old sparked uproar from fans because of his lengthy tenure in Donetsk where he won a host of domestic honours and the 2009 UEFA Cup. Lucescu was unsettled by the reaction and even announced his intention to walk away just two days after signing his contract, but subsequently reversed his decision. Dynamo go straight into next season's Champions League group stage as Zorya, who finished third in the league, have secured a spot in the Europa League play-off round. dg/jc/dj
