The Houston Texans are poised to hire Baltimore Ravens assistant head coach David Culley as their next head coach, replacing Bill O'Brien who was let go in October, the US media reported on Wednesday. The 65-year-old Culley spent the past two seasons with the Ravens and this would be his first head coaching job in his 27-year coaching career. The departure of O'Brien created openings for both the general manager and head coaching roles. Houston hired Nick Caserio earlier this month as the general manager and he immediately began the search for a head coach before eventually deciding on Culley, US sports broadcaster ESPN reported. Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Caldwell, and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley were all interviewed for the Texans' job. Staley was hired last week as a head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers . The Texans, who went 4-12 this past season, had whittled the candidates down to just Culley and Frazier. Culley would join the Miami Dolphins' Brian Flores and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin as the only Black head coaches in the NFL. gph/bb
