The World Cup women's slalom and giant slalom races, slated for Ofterschwang in Germany on March 7 and 8 but postponed Friday, will not be rescheduled, governing body the FIS announced. "Despite all efforts, it is not possible to find a place to stage the races initially programmed for Ofterschwang," the FIS said in a statement. As a result of the cancellation, the World Cup has just nine more rounds left - two at La Thuile in Italy this weekend, three at Are in Sweden on March 12-14 and four at the season finals at Cortina d'Ampezzo from March 16-22. Italy's Federica Brignone leads the overall World Cup title race with a 73-point lead over America's Mikaela Shiffrin, the three-time World Cup champion who hasn't raced since the death of her father Jeff on February 3. Slovakia's Petra Vlhova, who will race at La Thuile, is 159 points behind Brignone. tba/dj
