Uganda head coach Johnathan McKinstry has been fired, six weeks after being suspended, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) said on Monday. Following a string of poor results, the 35-year-old from Northern Ireland was asked to step aside for a month in March, and was replaced by a team of local coaches. "The head coach of the Uganda men's national team Johnathan McKinstry has today reached an agreement with FUFA to bring an end to his 18 months at the helm of the Cranes," the body said. One of the youngest international football managers, McKinstry managed 12 wins in 18 international matches in charge of the Cranes, including clinching a record 15th Cecafa cup title. His departure comes hot on the heels of the retirement of three senior team players, including captain Denis Onyango, less than two months before the 2022 Africa World Cup qualifiers resume in June. Uganda have been drawn in Group E alongside east African arch-rivals Kenya, Rwanda and Mali. aik/fb/iwd
