FIFA announced Tuesday that Kenyan football club Zoo Kericho had been banished from this season's Premier League after being found guilty of match-fixing. In a statement, FIFA's disciplinary committee also ordered that the club from western Kenya be relegated to Division One for the 2021/2022 season for its misconduct. "The FIFA Disciplinary Committee finds the club Zoo FC responsible for activities related to manipulation of football matches and competitions," Alejandro Piera, the committee's deputy chairman, said in a statement. The club has 30 days to respond to FIFA's order and must implement an education programme designed to curb future match-fixing and other such misconduct. Zoo FC's management said they would be appealing the ruling. The expulsion comes as the Kenyan Premier League faces greater scrutiny over match-fixing and player corruption in its competition sanctioned by the national football federation (FKF). FIFA slapped three players from another premiership club, Kakamega Homeboyz, with four-year suspensions in January 2020 over match-fixing charges. Another club player, George Mandela, was hit with a lifetime ban. Zoo FC sacked three players that same month over what club management described as involvement in a match-fixing syndicate. aik/np/mw
