New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is awaiting test results in hopes of pinpointing the cause of a sore right shoulder that has affected him while hitting. "We're in a holding pattern with it, just trying to figure out what exactly is going on," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Saturday at the team's Tampa, Florida, spring training base. "We're trying to get our arms around if we can pinpoint something that's causing some of the discomfort. At this point we haven't found that." Boone said Judge was "not right" when he tried to take batting practice in a batting cage on Friday. Judge had been shut down from hitting after experiencing discomfort. "Timewise, we're still fine," Boone said of hopes that Judge would be ready to go on opening day, noting that if he is able to start playing in spring training games in a week or 10 days Judge should be ready. "But, first things first is getting up to that point," Boone said. "And I don't know when that is." Judge, 27, was shut down in early February with shoulder trouble, with Boone saying at the time an MRI exam showed no change in the shoulder. Judge has worked out and performed drills with outfielders, with Boone saying this month that throwing was not an issue. It's another injury worry for the Yankees, who lost star pitcher Luis Severino for the season when he was diagnosed with an elbow injury that required Tommy John ligament replacement surgery. Slugger Giancarlo Stanton is also dealing with injury, admitting Friday he was frustrated by a right calf strain that could see him start the 2020 season in the injured list. bb/rcw
