Top seed Karolina Pliskova cruised into the second round of the US Open on Monday, swatting aside Ukraine's Anghelina Kalinina in straight sets in just over an hour. Czech ace Pliskova, the world number three, needed just 1hr 3min to down her 145th-ranked opponent, winning 6-4, 6-0. The 28-year-old, who reached the final of the US Open in 2016, will now face France's Caroline Garcia in the second round. World number 50 Garcia advanced after defeating Italy's Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 in 1hr 21 min. rcw/jc
