Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas fired out a broadside at potential Olympic rivals by soaring out to the second best outdoor triple jump ever recorded, 15.43 metres, at a meet in the Spanish city of Andujar on Saturday. The reigning two-time world indoor and outdoor champion bettered her own outdoor record by two centimetres. The 25-year-old's new mark is 7cm short of the world record of 15.50m set in 1995 by Ukrainian Inessa Kravets. Rojas had already jumped 15.43m indoors, in February 2019 in Madrid, which was a new indoor world record. She claimed Olympic silver in the 2016 Rio Games behind Colombian Caterine Ibarguen, and will be a firm favourite for gold at the July 23-August 8 Tokyo Games. kn/lp/iwd
