Toulouse fly-half Zack Holmes was banned for four weeks on Wednesday after collecting a red card for a high tackle against Connacht in the European Cup. The 29-year-old Australian was sent off in the 73rd minute for a tackle on Connacht full back, Tiernan O'Halloran "in a dangerous manner" European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) said. The EPCR Disciplinary Committee suspended Holmes until February 17. He will miss the European Cup match against Gloucester on Sunday, French Top14 matches against Bordeaux-Begles and Racing 92, as well as the inaugural French club Super Sevens on February 1. The committee also suspended Saracens prop, Rhys Carre, for a dangerous tackle on Ospreys full-back Dan Evans which earned a red card in the fourth minute on Saturday. However, because Carre expressed remorse and has a clean disciplinary record, his ban is until February 3. The 21-year-old, who has six Wales caps, will miss the Six Nations opener against Italy on February 1. The EPCR also suspended New Zealander Callum Gibbins, a Glasgow Warriors flanker, for two weeks for "dangerous play in a ruck" when he hit Exeter flanker, Jacques Vermeulen "with his shoulder in a dangerous manner." mca/pb/dj
