French Top 14 side Montpellier said Friday they have signed Fijian wing Masivesi Dakuwaqa on a two-year deal after his contract expired with Toulon for whom he made 38 appearances. Coach Philippe Saint-Andre hailed Dakuwaqa, 27, as a "very atypical player capable of covering up to five positions. His versatility will therefore be a major bonus". The powerfully-built Dakuwaqa, who can play backrow or centre, first came to prominence in rugby sevens in 2016 and made 49 tournament appearances for his country in the format, winning an Olympic gold in Rio. Montpellier, who missed out on the final phase of the championship after placing tenth, did qualify for the European Cup after their Challenge Cup success at Twickenham over Leicester. jmc/cdw/lp
