The New York Giants trained Thursday without eight players and two assistant coaches after the NFL club suffered its first Covid-19 positive test of the 2020 campaign. The Giants said Thursday that an unidentified player tested positive for the deadly virus and that he and all his close contacts were told not to report to the team training facility for workouts ahead of Monday's game against Tampa Bay. "Late last night, we were notified that a Giants player tested positive for COVID-19," the Giants said in a statement. "The player was immediately self-isolated, and the contact tracing process was initiated. "All of the player's close contacts were identified and were informed to remain home today. Those individuals will participate in meetings remotely." The NFL Network and ESPN reported that the Giants would put offensive guard Will Hernandez on the Covid-19 reserve list and that the coaches considered close contacts were linebackers coach Bret Bielema and defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson. The Giants had only four available blockers for Thursday workouts, the NFL's television network reported, also saying that none of the absent lineman except the one who tested positive was considered "high risk" and that could see them back in the practice facility as early as Friday under NFL protocols.
