Welsh region Dragons will be unable to fulfil their next two Pro14 fixtures due to seven of their players testing positive for Covid-19, the Welsh Rugby Union announced on Friday. Both the WRU and Dragons took the decision to close the region down so there will be no training either, even with the players who have not tested positive. As a result their home game with Irish province Connacht on Saturday and the following match on November 14 away against Scottish rivals Glasgow Warriors have been postponed. The game with Edinburgh (November 23) is still programmed but "under review" as players are put through a testing programme. "The Welsh Rugby Union and Dragons Rugby have collaboratively and proactively taken the decision to close the Region following the latest results of the COVID-19 testing programme," read the WRU statement. "The Dragons returned seven new positive COVID-19 tests this week as part of the Welsh Rugby's weekly testing programme. "Working closely with and supported by Public Health Wales the decision has been made to close the Region, with no training or games to take place during this time. "All players, management and staff at the Region are to self-isolate and follow all Public Health Wales guidelines." Dragons were in action last Sunday beaten 28-16 at home by Munster. None of the Munster players have returned a positive test for Covid-19. The WRU said that PRO14 Rugby will examine potential dates in early 2021 to reschedule the postponed games. pi/bsp
