Huawei said Thursday it has received UK permission to build a research and developement centre in Cambridge that will become the global headquarters of its optoelectronics business. The Chinese telecoms giant said it will invest £1 billion ($1.2 billion, 1.1 billion euros) in the first phase of the project and "further cement Cambridge as a global innovations hub". zak/phz/rl
