Young trainer Donnacha O'Brien took a Group One win with his first ever runner in Britain as Fancy Blue claimed the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Thursday. The 22-year-old O'Brien, a former jockey and son of Irish training great Aidan, secured his second Group One success as a trainer after Fancy Blue's triumph in the French Oaks earlier this month. The 11-4 second favourite was eased into the lead late by Ryan Moore in the fillies' race -- run over just under one mile-and-a-quarter -- before holding off a late surge from 20/1 shot One Voice to win by a neck. "She's unbelievable. You never expect in your first year to get one like her," said O'Brien. "I'm very lucky. I was very happy with her, her work was really good. Everything had gone perfectly to plan so we were full of confidence today." Nazeef, ridden by the in-form Jim Crowley, grabbed third with a late run, while 9-4 favourite Magic Wand, heavily backed before the race, could only finish a distant fifth under Frankie Dettori. Last year's shock winner Deidre failed in her bid for a second straight win in the race, as the Japanese hope finished last of the seven runners. jc/pb
