Portugal's parliament on Friday passed a law allowing medically assisted dying, putting the Catholic-majority country on course to become the fourth in Europe to legalise euthanasia. The bill, which was adopted 136 votes to 78 with four abstentions, must now be submitted to the president -- who can enact the legislation, refer it to the constitutional court for study or use his veto against it. lf/txw/spm
