There was condemnation in Montenegro on Thursday after a brutal attack on an LGBT person in which assailants etched the shape of a cross onto the victim's chest. According to the group LGBT Forum Progres, their member was attacked on Wednesday evening in front of his family home in the capital Podgorica. "He was injured in the genital area with a sharp object, they drew a cross on his chest area, his money and watch were stolen", the organisation wrote on Twitter. "This is yet another attack on LGBTIQ individuals in Montenegro, which sends a clear message of fear, hatred, and terror," it added. Montenegro police said they were taking "intensive action" in order to solve the case and identify the perpetrators. Tiny Adriatic country's President Milo Djukanovic condemned the attack, adding that "violence on basis of sexual orientation and gender identity is unacceptable". Podgorica parish priest Nikola Pejovic told local media that he was disgusted by the attack. "It seems that violence and insults have become a part of our every day life", Pejovic told news portal Vijesti. "The latest event in which a young man was injured in a monstrous way by carving a cross on his chest has caused justified anxiety in every person", he added. str-mbs/har
