The Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Angels will meet in next year's Major League Baseball Little League Classic at Williamsport, Pennsylvania, during the 2021 Little League World Series, MLB announced Sunday. This year's annual global showdown of youth baseball squads was called off in April due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, also wiping out the planned 2020 MLB game in Williamsport between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles. The Indians will be the host team for the August 22, 2021 matchup at Bowman Field, a long-time minor-league ballpark near the Little League grounds. "We're very excited to be selected for what has become a highlight of MLB's unique lineup of annual showcase games," Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said. "To have the opportunity to engage these young athletes to celebrate and continue to grow this great game will have a powerful and lasting impact on our organization and especially our players." Little League World Series players and their families will be among those in the stands for the contest, while the major leaguers will attend youth games that day as well. River Ridge, Louisiana, defeated Curacao in last year's Little League World Series final. Tokyo has won five of the past 10 championships. js/bb
